Like many companies in Silicon Valley, Mona Khan Company (formerly known as the Mona Sampath Dance Company) was founded in a friend's apartment with countless nearby Indian tea and coffee. Encouraged, they were determined to inject Bollywood's crazy and interesting culture into performances, courses, and finally, a fitness program (Bombay Jam®) came into being. Mona Khan Company has grown rapidly, from a few employees to more than 25 full-time and part-time employees. In 2009, they introduced a schedule of 30 lessons. Today, they have more than 115 lessons per week and perform more than 150 performances. They produce the largest Bollywood resident performance in the Bay Area twice a year, and it has grown to become one of the largest Bollywood dance platforms in North America. They are an organization run by ethnic and immigrant women who are breaking various glass ceilings.
