It became part of their family in 1618, when Henry VIII turned it into a deer-hunting lodge after the monastery there was destroyed in 1536. Charles Eyre was largely in charge of planning the grounds and the house. He also planted a remarkable collection of specimen trees, many of which can still be seen today. Welford Park has a thriving social community as well as a thriving rural business that focuses on farming sustainably and protecting the land.
