After immigrating from St. Elia in Sicily to Milwaukee, Sendiks founders began to sell quality fruits and vegetables in horse-drawn carriages. This began in the northeast of Milwaukee and eventually led to the opening of the agricultural market in Auckland and Downer Avenue. In 1949, the grandfather Tom Ballistry, who was simply and affectionately known as "Mr." in Sentik, opened the third Sundick fruit and vegetable at the corner of Silver Spring Road and Hubin Road in the center of Whitefish Bay.
