They started working in the vineyards near Fano, a small Italian village on the Adriatic Sea, in 1886. This began the Robert Renzoni Vineyards family's history of making wine. Federico and his father began making wine for friends and family while working in the Robert Renzoni Vineyards. After two years working as a commercial fisherman in New London, Connecticut, Federico decided in 1914 to move to Buffalo, New York, where he and his brother-in-law Romeo Battistoni started a wine and liqueur business. Unfortunately, they were forced out of business by Prohibition in 1918, so that venture was short-lived. When prohibition ended in 1933, Federico and Romeo returned to a variant of their first business venture together, this time a wine distribution business, after successfully running a construction company over the years. Robert's granddad, Domenic, went along with them in 1934 and together they started bringing in wines from Italy and France.
