Pooles Cavern is the charitable trust that owns and runs Poole's Cavern & Buxton Country Park. Pooles Cavern was set up in 1967 to help protect Buxton's unique buildings and landscape. Throughout recent years Buxton Municipal Affiliation has obtained ten forests which were once important for the Chatsworth Home. The Duke of Devonshire gave the woodlands to preserve them for the enjoyment of Buxton residents and visitors. In 1975, Buxton Country Park was established in the largest woodland, Grin Low, which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest for its distinctive woodland wildflowers. Poole's Cavern Show cave, which had been closed to the public for more than a decade, was purchased by BCA in 1977.
