Building Motorsports Park to complete the Corvette Museum experience was first considered in 2007. Wendell Strode, the executive director of the museum, was alerted to the popularity of their High-Performance Driving Events (HPDE) and comments from enthusiasts who liked working out their automobiles. The idea of using some property next to the current Motorsports Park campus for a track was first floated when the chance to acquire it presented itself, but it was later deemed that there wasn't enough space to do so adequately.
