The first La Carreta opened in little Havana's famed Calle Ocho in 1976. After Cuba's political takeover in 1959, a growing number of Cuban exiles moved to Miami in search of a community similar to their homeland. La Carreta was born out of a growing need for a true cultural center. Owned by Cuban families, it continues to be a staple of the "abuela-style" food of the old Cuban family dining tradition, as well as the famous authentic Cuban espresso. At more than nine locations, they serve authentic Cuban cuisine and coffee to thousands of Miami area and visitors every day.
