FROMKORA was founded in the summer of 2020, during the uncertainty of the global COVID-19 pandemic. FROMKORA goals are to show the richness of Filipino culture and pay tribute to Corazon, the late grandmother of co-founder and chef Kimberly Camara. Both co-founder Kevin Borja and co-founder Kimberly were impacted by mass layoffs in the hospitality industry just a few months prior to the launch of Kora. They were laid off from their positions as servers and cooks for research and development at USHG, respectively. Kimberly decided to fry a batch of brioche dough instead of baking it, so she could share Filipino cuisine with some of her favorite foods, her grandmother's recipes, and a pastry that everyone could enjoy: a croissant. Kimberly and Corazon's names combined—became its marquee, with their logo crafted directly from Corazon's old handwritten recipe book.
