Joseph Daniel Zinke, the founder of Custom Insoles, was born in Nebraska to German parents. He was destined to learn at a young age that in the 1880s, a shoemaker's son was required to forget play and grow up in the shoemaking business. As a result, he began his apprenticeship in kindergarten at the age of six. He had to sit at attention in his father's shop before and after school for years to receive daily instruction on the art of making custom shoes out of leather. Zinke left home when he was 14 to learn, see the world, travel, and eventually open their own shop. Custom Insoles was born out of this dedication to footwear. Between the ages of 10 and 14, Joseph worked in a shop, saving scrap, salvaging nails, fetching, carrying, and actually shoemaking, each step having a purpose.
