In 1937, Connells Maple Lee began selling the plants at local clothing factories and local farmers' markets to increase her family's income. As interest in Hannah's plants grew, the business and it grew. In the following years, second-hand greenhouses were acquired to grow more flowers. It was a real family business, with Hannah's husband, Lester, working in the greenhouse and their three children performing various duties with them. The start-up grew by increasing sales at local farmers' markets and by wholesale flowers and plants to other retail florists. As the retail flower business continues to grow, Lester retires from teaching and develops his retail flower business by managing greenhouses. Around 1945, after numerous requests for cut flowers, it was decided to convert the two-car garage into a flower shop. The first flower shop is open!
