Arts Iowa is a collaborative network serving some of the most prestigious Arts institutions in eastern Iowa, including the Iowa orchestra, the ballet four cities, the cedar rapids opera house, the Iowa orchestra school, and the Paramount theater. The Iowa state orchestra was founded in 1921 and is recognized as the state's premier symphony orchestra. The mission of Arts Iowa is to promote the enjoyment and support of the quality music symphony through quality performance, education and community participation. Under the direction of Timothy Hankewich, who just completed his eighth season as music's director, its 68 professional musicians put on more than 180 public performances throughout the year, many of which can be seen on Iowa public radio and Iowa public television.
